Part 2: Contacting your State Representatives

June 08, 2018

In the first part of this series, we discussed how to contact your local officials within the City of Mansfield. The next step is to look at state-level representatives. From the Ohio State Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives to Governor Kasich and his cabinet, there are many representatives working for you!

The Ohio General Assembly is made up of the Ohio State Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives.  It is the job of the representatives to form legislation with the opinions and desires of their district in mind.  According to the Ohio House of Representatives website, “Each state representative also acts as a liaison between groups and individuals in their districts and state and federal agencies.”

Mark Romanchuk represents District 2 in the Ohio House of Representatives.  A Richland County resident can contact Representative Romanchuk’s office via telephone at (614) 466-5802 or email  at  district2@ohr.state.oh.us with concerns and/or comments.

A person can contact their legislator in the Ohio State Senate to “express support or opposition to legislation, submit an idea for a bill, or ask for help with personal matters involving state agencies.”

Larry Obhof is the senator in charge of Richland County. He is also serving as the Senate President.  A resident can contact Senator Obhof’s office via telephone at (614) 466-7505 or through email  at obhof@ohiosenate.gov. The Ohio Senate website is a great resource for current events in the General Assembly as well as information about committees and much more.

Governor John Kasich is also available for contact.  He “welcomes the opportunity to consider your thoughts, concerns, ideas, and questions.”  A person can call his office at (614) 466-3555 or email him.  The Governor’s website has more information on current priorities and initiatives of his administration.  Press releases can also be found on this site.

Members of the Governor’s cabinet serve as resources for specific departments, such as Job and Family Services, Veterans Services, and Youth Services.  Click here for more information about services as well as contact information for each cabinet head.

Stay tuned for the third and final part of this series: contacting your federal representatives.
