MANSFIELD, Ohio – North End Community Improvement Collaborative, Inc. (NECIC) is pleased to welcome the Solutions Adult Transition Program satellite location to the new NECIC office at the former Urban Center, 134 North Main St., Mansfield.
The Solutions Adult Transition Program is a collaboration between Mansfield City Schools Adult Education (Aspire) and North Central State College, and will be working closely with NECIC and its Temp2Higher workforce development program. Solutions is an alternative academic program for adult students who need to develop language arts and math skills before transitioning to the college environment, and may also serve those who want to improve their skills before certification or entrance testing.
“Temp2Higher works with a clientele, many of which have college potential. I’d like this to be a gateway for them,” said North Central State College Outreach Admissions Advisor Jim Mudra.
“We are pleased to have Jim on hand as a representative of North Central State’s continued presence here at the former Urban Center, now home to NECIC,” said NECIC Executive Director Deanna West-Torrence.
Prospective students could take the Accuplacer assessment at the North Main Street location to determine eligibility for the Solutions program, Mudra said.
With the Solutions Program, Mudra noted, students work with an Aspire Coordinator who develops an individualized, self-paced learning plan (ILP). The plan is then implemented by tutors who work with the students individually or in small groups. In fact, students that participate in the Solutions Program consistently outperform their non-Solutions counterparts, he said.
“The best part is there is no charge for this, and no books to purchase,” said Mudra.
“This is an excellent resource for our community residents, and more specifically, for our business customers,” said West-Torrence.
She added that the program ties into the educational portion of the North End Community Economic Development Plan. The Plan is the resident-driven guide for redevelopment and planning on the North End, she said. “This makes education more accessible, which is something requested by our North End residents,” she explained.
